This vacation pay calculator shows how much you'll receive when taking vacation in Brazil, already including the one-third (1/3) bonus guaranteed by the Federal Constitution. From your gross monthly salary and the number of rest days, it works out the proportional vacation pay, the one-third bonus and the gross total — the values before the mandatory INSS and income tax deductions.

Worked example
With a gross salary of R$3,000.00 and 30 vacation days, the base amount is the salary for the period: R$3,000.00. The 1/3 bonus is R$1,000.00 (3,000 ÷ 3). Adding the two, the gross vacation total is R$4,000.00, before INSS and income tax. If you took only 15 days, the values would be halved: R$1,500.00 base, R$500.00 bonus and R$2,000.00 total.
Frequently asked questions
What is the 1/3 vacation bonus?
It's an extra amount guaranteed by Brazil's Federal Constitution: on top of the normal pay for the vacation period, the worker receives an additional one-third of that value. The idea is to give a financial boost for the rest period.
How is vacation pay calculated when I don't take all 30 days?
The value is proportional to the days taken. The formula is (salary ÷ 30) × vacation days, and the 1/3 bonus is then added on top of that result. That's why 15 days is worth half of 30 days.
Is this the amount I'll actually receive?
No. The calculator shows the gross vacation value. INSS and income tax are still deducted from it, just like on your salary. To estimate the net amount, use our Net Salary Calculator with the gross vacation total.
Can I sell part of my vacation?
Yes. Brazilian law lets you convert up to 1/3 of your vacation days (a maximum of 10 days) into cash — the so-called 'abono pecuniário'. In that case you rest for 20 days and receive the remaining 10 as money, also with the proportional 1/3 bonus.
Does vacation pay include overtime and allowance averages?
When a worker regularly receives overtime, night-shift, hazard or unhealthy-work allowances, those amounts are averaged into the vacation pay. This calculator uses only the salary you enter; for cases with variable averages, the final value may be slightly higher.
When must vacation pay be paid?
Vacation pay must be paid up to two days before the rest period starts. Late or missing payment can entitle the worker to double payment, according to Brazilian labor court rulings.
